Car insurance renewal. Unsettled claim.

I had a crash back in June 2010. A motorbike tried to overtake me while I was turning right and crashed into me. The claim is still unsettled. My insurance runs out today.

I have been driving for 3 years now and this would be my first crash/claim.

Im just a little unsure. When im looking for quotes and I am reporting that I have had a claim. For the reason am I putting third party hit me and that its not my fault? My insurance have said they are agreeing with me that I am not at fault however the 3rd party is saying its my fault and its being disputed.

Feels like it is taking forever. So frustrated aswell that I am going to have to pay more now for something thats not my fault. :(

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks x

Something similar happened to me a few years ago.

As I recall, my insurer said that as the claim was still open, they would treat it as a fault claim (i.e. my fault) and so charge me a higher renewal premium. Then when the claim was settled in my favour, they refunded the extra premium I had paid.

I have to admit that I didn't shop around at that renewal time, so I don't know what other insurers would have said.

If I was in your position, I would get the online quotes (and note the reference numbers) and then call the insurers to explain the situation. They can usually manually update/adjust the online quote, and so maintain your online discount. I have done this a couple of times where the questions online didn't take into account an 'unusual' situation.
