Help: Private Parking ticket

Hello,
Two months back I parked on a private car park which had warnings placed in very confusing ways and places. Because of this even though I saw the signs I parked there thinking the place I had parked was safe. This because this car park was right next to a FREE car park by Dundee City Council. I got a ticket of £100 (or £60 if payed quickly) when I returned to the car which as per the warning notice had overstayed at the car park. However due to confusing places of warning I decided to appeal against it via e-mail and got a letter from the ticketing company that my appeal was refused. I decided to ignore the letter and not to pay for the ticket. After that I was away for a month during which I got two letters from a debt collector with £147.00 as amount due. The car is registered on my wife's name but I was the driver. Therefore these letters were addressed to her. I called the debt collectors today and said I was the driver and stay at the same address. I think I have made a big mistake by doing that.
I need advice from somebody as to what should I do next. I am looking forward to somebody's reply.

Thanks a lot,

Ignore all corespondence form now on - stuff them, seriously. They will send loads of letters then give up.

Dunno why on earth you rang them on their premium number, don't tell me they have your phone number now as well...

But no harm done - just ignore the scammers, stop panicking about debt collector letters, they are NOT bailiffs. A debt collector writing to you (or ringing you up, now) has no more powers than me contacting you and asking for money.

They can't send the boys round, nothing happens. They will just harass you and you can report them for that as it's a criminal offence:

  • Thank you Adouglasmhor and coupen-mad for your replies. It wasn't a premium number and luckily I didn't give my phone number. I didn't know that the debt collectors can not send boys around. I am happy that's the case as that was my biggest worry. Thanks a lot again.

    Cheers
