Who knows their cars??!!!

We currently own a citreon c3 (petrol) and a ford focus (diesel). The focus has finally come to the end of its life - much to my husbands dismay! - and so we're looking for a replacement.

Each car travels for around 50 mins each day to work (motorway driving for the vast majority) so we need a replacment for the focus that is economic (especially with rising fuel prices!)

As i drive the c3 we need the replacment car to be a little bigger (we currently use the focus for trips out with kids and all the baggage that comes with it!)

And finally we need reliablility and if im honest id like something that looks half decent too! We're looking to spend around 5 - 6 grand used, if anyone can give me any ideas of what car fits the above i'd be most greatful!

    Mazda6 estate.

Autotrader has loads of 07 reg ones at under £6k.

Spacious, comfortable, reliable, good to drive.

I would go for a Mondeo, diesel are more economical but can be expensive to repair, petrol models are not as good on fuel though a relative of mine does a lot of Dyal carraigeway driving in his 04/04 1.8 Lx and gets mid to high 40's on a cruise.

Found these ex fleet cars at Cargiant

Don't worry about the miles as these kind of cars can take high motorway miles in their stride, so long as it has been well looked after why worry.

The Mazda is also a nice car, but I prefer the look and handling of the Mondeo.

Yeah, I wouldn't listen to people that religously spout about the reliability of VW diesel engines, maybe the older 1.9 TDi, but the PD had issues with the cams that operate the injectors and the later ones have other problems apparently, they are the experts at PR though.

About 8 or 9 years ago, loads of Private Hire/Minicab drivers in London had Passats with the TDi lump, and the Golf with the same engine. Very few have the new Passat.

But as VW are happy with the middleclasses buying their product then their PR is working, I personally prefer a car not to cost me anything, and a VW would also be an awful lot more expensive to buy than the cars I have put links to above.

VW diesels were OK, Too many issues in recent years, Especially if you have a car with a VW badge.

Sent the same parts to spain & russia and they suddenly become more reliable.

A small car with a roofrack/towbar & trailer may work out better for you, More money in your pocket rather
than run a large car you dont need.

You do have the problem of storage and security with a trailer.
