Odeon & 3D glasses

Options
Good morning moviegoers

Me and the missus got out on Saturday night for a meal and the cinema whilst my mum and dad were on babysitting duties.

We went to see Saw 3D. The most horrific and disturbing part of the film was the entrance price!! I'm admittedly not the best person to comment on it as in recent years we have only been to the cinema on a Wednesday (you know why...) so paying full price was always going to be a shocker.

Anyway, to my main point. The adult ticket for a film was £8. On top of this there was a surcharge cos it was a 3D film (£1.75), and on top of this there was a charge for buying glasses £1.

Now the blurb on the Odeon website states
"Now, the first time you watch a 3D film at ODEON you`ll buy your very own 3D glasses for just £1 and pay a lower price for your ticket. "
That's their emphasis, not mine.
So, was my ticket price lower? We compared our ticket price with that on the standard price list at the cinema, and it added up as stated above. No discounts?

Then it says
"Instead of throwing away your 3D glasses at the end, hang on to them and bring them to ODEON next time you want to watch a 3D film. Not only will you save money after the second 3D film you watch, you`ll be helping the environment by reusing your glasses too. "
Again, their emphasis.

So if we go to an Odeon again (sake of argument, at the same one), will we be charged less? will we pay the £1.75 surcharge?
I'm curious to know.
Whether we go to see another 3D film is debatable, I really wasn't impressed with the technology (especially wouldn't pay extra for it)

Cheers
Alex

Cineworld only charge 80p for 3D glasses exact same one.

There is always an extra charge for watching a 3D movie. But not for a standard film unless you get premier seats, Usually i sit on them anyway as the cinema isn't always full when time i go.

There is a surcharge for the 3D film and there is a separate surcharge for the glasses. If you reuse glasses you will only pay the surcharge for the 3D film (I assume this will be £1.75 - will vary from branch to branch).

And if you go on Wednesdays you will have to pay for any 3D elements of the 'free' ticket.

You are right - the technology is cack and you should also look out for 2D showings of the films - not only will it be cheaper more importantly the picture quality of the 2D prints will be vastly superior (and more immersive.)

so the 'pay a lower price for your ticket' is a fraudulent statement.

And the 'save money after the second 3D film' is just cos you don't have to fork out a quid for a pair of glasses.

I'll be sending an email off to Odeon then.

I'd be surprised if Saw 3D is shown in 2D anywhere - would rather confuse the average person! :)

So you can watch others being gouged but can't take being gouged yourself ;)

    Official response from Odeon:

There was a time when the 3D Glasses were included in the price of a ticket so each time you visited the Cinema whether you had the Glasses or not you still had to pay the same price.
The price of a ticket has been reduced but however the 3D surcharge is always going to be applied due to the fact that the film has been produced in 3D.
The advantage of this will be if you already have 3D glasses you will not be paying again for them instead you will be able to resuse them time after time.

So, my understanding is that they used to charge £2.75 extra for 3D films, but are able to reduce this surcharge by £1 if you have glasses, but have to pay £1 for these the first time around.

Still, I think their description of paying a lower price for your ticket is somewhat misleading. That's life eh.

I think they have phrased it poorly, but it means that you will pay a lower charge for your next visit because you won't need to buy the glasses again.
The first price + surcharge will always apply, it's just the cost of the glasses you save.
