External Doorframe issues.

I am looking to change the door on my workshop to a framed ledged and braced type, 44mm thick. But the recess in the frame is about 12mm deep, for a simple shed type door. The obvious approach is to change the frame, but as the door and frame are all non standard sizes, it looks like I may need to build a new frame in situ and then order my new door to the right size, which will incur a week or 2 with no door. OK, I can get around that.

So, it has occurred to me to somehow enlarge the recess in the frame to take a 44 mm thick door - I suppose that there is a risk of hitting nails and fixings if you use power tools.

Now, has anyone dealt with a similar problem or got any ideas? Or dealt with custom door suppliers etc who would probably be helpful?

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

It is brick. I have just found a company who will make a new door and frame for the opening for about £200 - as I will need a door anyway it is about £60 for a frame to fit the opening, so although the current frame is good old wood which looks undaunted by the test of time, it may be best just to go with this.
