Are rings that are comprised of more but smaller diamonds frowned upon?

Obviously one big diamond presumably would be more sought after and therefore command a higher price but generally are rings comprised of many smaller diamonds acceptable?

I really like these 3 rings and I have it on good authority she will love them.... I asked her twin!

My mum reckons for the carat of diamond they are overpriced.

I really love the first one :)

  • Want my advice.... book a holiday to Turkey!!!
Bought my engagement ring over in Olu Deniz, its a 1.5ct solitaire attached to a 1ct eternity band - its stunning!!
Paid £1500 had it valued for insurance purposes when we got back - valuation £5750!!!
I couldn't believe it, but I love it & its stunning.
Worth a shot if your thinking of having a holiday sometime soon.
    Congratulations & Good Luck!

Hi, I used to work for a high street jeweller and I would advise you not to go for the first 2 (unless things have changed in the last 5 years). Its just that if one of those 4 diamonds fell out, because of the style of them it could not be repaired as its too hard to match them up, it would have to be replaced. It wasnt so bad in the jewellers i worked in as you got a 10 year manufacturers guarantee and so would be covered for a replacement, Im not sure though if this jewellers gives you that guarantee. Hope you find the perfect ring! :)

Thanks for the advice- Ive read a lot about this issue with diamonds falling out and not being covered with the warranty so ill investigate it.

A few people recommened the jeweller channels website though they have horrendous reviews on the internet- people claiming their stuff to be of a very low standard etc.

I think if I could get the one in the first link, but maybe with a bigger centre diamond.
  • Hi weddingringman.

Do you know anyone that works for any airlines? My sister in law used to get loads of great bargains when she was an air hostess.

I was in India a few ago and got some beautiful diamond Jewellery, it was valued a few thousand more than what i paid. :j:j

I dont know if you can buy online from india or if its a too risky, but if your interested and want the details i've still got the receipt from the jewellers i went to.

    Good luck.

    Gerry :)
  • Three things to consider: cut, colour and clarity!
It isn't just the carat of the diamond which affects the price!

For similar money you could get big/imperfect or small/perfect! (think about the message each could give!!)
I personally wouldn't buy a diamond where the selling didn't advertise the c/c/c as you have no idea of the quality you are buying.
    Also - congratulations!

Yeah i agree with you, i didn't know anything about cut or clarity until i bought diamonds in india and read the details on the certificate.

My fiance got mine from Hatton Garden in London - it's a whole street of jewellers specialising in diamonds and therefore engagement rings, so you can play them off against each another and haggle. Excellent customer service too. More info here:

I've heard Dubai is very good for diamonds too!

I've heard alot of positive feedback about Hatton Garden.

Wish i hadn't read this thread, it's put me in the mood for a bit of "diamond retail therapy" lol

Don't be afraid to haggle a bit if the ring you want is a bit out of your reach. The ticket price on my wife's ring in the posh jeweller's shop was £2700 but I only paid £2300.

Any price ticket in any shop is considered an "invitation to treat". There's no law that says you have to pay what the shop asks for.

All they can do is say no...
  • If you can find the time I would take a trip through to Glasgow to John McIntyres in Mitchell Lane. My original engagement ring was from there and was considerably less cost than it would have been if we had bought in one of the Argyll Arcade jewellers.

There is a Mcintyres in Edinburgh however I seem to remember the Glasgow shop being at pains to point out they were not connected at one point.

    Good luck with your search:)
