My alias has gone out the window because it wont let me post links!!!!

Are rings that are comprised of more but smaller diamonds frowned upon?

Obviously one big diamond presumably would be more sought after and therefore command a higher price but generally are rings comprised of many smaller diamonds acceptable?

I really like these 3 rings and I have it on good authority she will love them.... I asked her twin!

My mum reckons for the carat of diamond they are overpriced.
  • If you are in Edinburgh have you been to the argyll arcade in Glasgow? There is loads to pick from there. Both my mum and I got lovely 2nd hand rings there

Frowned upon by whom? There is only one person going to be wearing the ring and that is the only person whose opinion counts. In the immortal words of every man to a woman coming to the end of a long shopping day, "If you like it, I like it."

Come on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.

If you want value for money for carat weight of diamonds, then buy an antique ring, typically you can buy from a high class jeweller at 50% of the insurance valuation. Many of them are classed as "estate rings" but typically are french and have superb quality stones in them.

More than your budget I know but this sort of thing is what you may be looking for:

Oh and lots of companies do a "lay away scheme" where you pay a deposit and the rest in installments (interest free) over anything up to six months.

  • Three things to consider: cut, colour and clarity!
It isn't just the carat of the diamond which affects the price!

For similar money you could get big/imperfect or small/perfect! (think about the message each could give!!)
I personally wouldn't buy a diamond where the selling didn't advertise the c/c/c as you have no idea of the quality you are buying.
    Also - congratulations!

Agree completely with the posters above - oh and stumpypumpy love the marmite analogy!

For me, my engagement ring was an antiquie ring, the quality and clarity of the diamonds is superb and I have been told by a jeweller who did the insurance valuation for it that he would be hard pushed to find diamonds of that quality today.

At the end of the day what would she like? She is the one who has to wear it for many years to come :D

Absolutely agree with the posters saying there is a diamond, and then there is a Diamond!!

You can get big stone of horendous quality for half price of small stone of fantastic clarity and colour.

However question is, what is your lady like and what does she know about diamonds? That is your consideration...
You couldn't for my sister off with massive ring from just any shop, she knows what there is to know about diamonds and I would say that she believes it shows a "class" having perfect diamond rather then large diamond. She would rather have designer ring with no stones then just blob of low quality diamond.

My colleagues all go for size. What carat it is is all that matters.

You need to consider what your other half preffers at the end of the day.

From the rings you posted I like the middle one. I like the design.
  • Try Samara James, they have a website and my ring is from there. You can pick exactly what you want and mine was 1/3 of the price of the same ring in ernest jones. Plus i got it 3 years ago and its still perfect, so they def get my vote.
