Not much to add, other than I too had to move back to my parental home, at the age of 25, after splitting with my partner. A year later I moved into a rented flat but 6 months after that I found out I was pregnant (but single) so now I'm back with mother again!
It's tough, but I'm amazed at how many friends & former schoolmates live with their folks too.
Re renting - vs - buying, in the long term I'd rather buy as I've always hated the thought of living in someone elses house & it never really being your own.
My plan is to stay put & save, save, save as I'd never be truly happy in rented accomodation (esp with child) and it appears you wouldn't be either.
