Hi,
Just hooked up a security light and the grey cable (about 12 years old) but still looks ok, had red, which I connected to live black which I connected to neutral and the earth didn't have any covering atall, just a plain copper wire.
is this ok?
thanks a lot for any advice,

Inside a normal "twin and earth" cable the copper is not sheathed, but where exposed you should sleeve it with some green/yellow sleeving.0

You should slide the earth wire through a green/yellow earth sleeve .Forgotten but not gone.0

Without stating the obvious, you can buy the sleeving at all the DIY sheds - only costs a pound or two.
