Travel insurance

Hi

After a recent trip on holiday my wife lost a bracelet at gatwick airport, although nothing has turned up at lost property I wondered if we could claim it on the travel insurance, Im pretty sure our house insurance would cover it but all depends on the excess as to is it worth it or not

Thanks, the insurance was with Thomas Cook

Many travel insurances would cover this, but they tend to have a requirement for a written police report obtained within 24 hours of the loss being discovered.

They like your household insurance also have excesses.

Whether your Thos Cook policy covers it or not - read it. It will tell you

They cover jewellery (as long as not left unattended etc) and your cover starts from when you leave your home until you get home so would cover for a loss at the airport. But they will probably also apply an excess so you may not be any better off, and you need to carefully check what kind of 'proof' they would need - a travel policy may ask more than your home insurance policy would. Sometimes they will also ask if the claim would be covered by another policy, such as home insurance, and not pay out if it would be

It's worth a call, bracelet was £110 and about a month old house insurance excess is £150
