Finding "lost" bank accounts?

After a conversation with my gf, she said she has an account with the Royal Bank of Scotland, but hasn't used it in yonks, has no papers (to her knowledge) & no card, but she knows the account was never closed.

The chance of getting into the bank is very limited due to work.

Any way of getting to the account?

I suggest you use the account tracing service:

She's actually just found an old statement, so obviously has a sort & account number now.

How do you go about getting a card re-issued? Just call / go into the bank?

What forms of ID do these people typically ask for in this situation? As i'm sure you can't just walk in with a statement.

I would suggest going to the branch to see if it is possible. She would need to take proof of ID and address along with the account details.

If the account has been inactive for some time, they may have closed the account entirely. In this case, you would have to go through the lost accounts procedure on the above link. If you do this, quote the account details, and she will get any money back along with any interest due.

I know it was used about 3-4 years ago. Would this amount of inactivity lead to account closure?

It is more than likely closed in that case, but if you are near to a branch, they should be able to confirm this if you have the account details.
