Just a rant on here to make myself feel better and give you lovely lot the heads up.

I ordered 20 x 440ml Stella cans on Friday for £10, had the confirmation email, no problem, price showing - £10
Delivered today and charged £18.49
Ok, think I, I'll just ring the nice man in customer services who will sort it.
WRONG!
Sorry, there was an error on the web site offer had finished but not taken of web and they've 'been told' not to honour the advertised price so will not be refunding the difference.:(

Unfortunately as my son took in the order and he and hubby have already started on the beer I'm not able to take it back to store but thought I'd warn others to check and then double check their receipts when they think they've got a bargain.

Feel marginally better now, thanks for reading.

what does tescos T&C say regards pricing and confirmation emails?
    edit:
    Prices

Please note that the prices on our Grocery website are guide prices only. The actual price you pay will be the price charged in store at the time your order is picked for delivery. The actual order value cannot be determined until the day of delivery because the prices stated on the website may vary either above or below the prices in store on the day your order is picked and delivered.

All prices are expressed inclusive of any VAT payable unless otherwise stated. On 1 January the Government will be increasing the rate of VAT from 15% to 17.5%. This will affect the price of some grocery products including food, health and beauty and household goods such as detergents and cleaners. This increase will be reflected in all orders delivered from 1st January onwards including orders that have been placed prior to the 1st January but for delivery on or after this date. The price of the items does not include the service charge which will be charged at the rates applicable at the date of your order and which will be displayed in the 'Help' section of the web site.

Due to a temporary technical difficulty, the unit prices shown may be incorrect in some cases. We are working hard to correct this but, until then, please disregard the unit price shown. The selling prices are correct. If you have any queries please contact our Customer Services Team on 0845 7225533, Monday to Saturday 7am to 11pm and Sunday 10am to 6pm.

When your order is delivered you may return any item and receive a full refund if you consider that the difference between the price charged and the guide price shown on the Grocery website is unacceptable.

A guide price suggests to me that whilst the price may change the difference shouldn't be that much. £10 to £18 is a significant rise. I would ask to speak to a supervisor.

Hi Zippy, yes I asked to speak to a supervisor. I got to speak to a lovely sounding man in Dundee who told me that they were aware of the error and had been 'instructed' not to refund.
I had a go a appealing to his better nature as I'm sure he has the authority to give something as a good will gesture but I obviously didn't sound as lovely to him as he declined!

As reminded on here, legally (T&Cs) Tesco can charge anything they please on the day of delivery even if it's way above what they have advertised and confirmed.
I have fired off an email to customer services attaching my confirmation and explaining how mislead I feel but I'm not holding my breath.

In the meantime my husband and son tell me it taste great and I'm still a bit cross because I love a bargain and thought I'd got one!:(

If I save just one person from the same misfortune I feel my post will be worth it!

It really bad from on Tesco's part. A 50 pence difference may be acceptable but £8!?

Imagine buying a car for £10k and the dealer charging £18k when it was delivered because their contract said they could. Trading standards would be al over them!

Hope the beer is nice despite the situation! I'm not having one tonight as it's a "school night"!

Yes I agree, it just feels wrong (especially as I'm the one out of pocket)
Under normal circumstances I would have the option to send it back with the driver or return it to store I suppose but it had been opened before I got the chance.
My lot are just too quick off the mark!
I wonder how many others have been caught out, I can't be the only one.
(I'm not really drinking it, that was just for dramatic effect ha ha!)

I've had an email from customer services this morning. They are going to refund me the £8.49.
    Result!
