Hi, following up this thread. I have had some quotes to compare to the Viessmann quote above. To clarify, the Viessmann came in at £2k, but then reduced to £1800 with different controls. I have taken on your advice and decided to stick with the Honeywell, and I did confirm with him that this included a chemical flush. As a registered Viessman installer he said that he needed to do this otherwise the guarantee would not be valid. I forgot to ask about the magnetic filter so will email him back. So, I contacted another 6 installers, three actually turned up and here are the quotes so far:
Quote 2
This was from a Worcester Bosch registered installer and his quote is as follows (which includes a 5 year guarantee parts & labour and the 10 yr on (something - sorry I forget what it was)!
Following our recent visit we are pleased to submit the quote as requested.
To remove existing balanced flue boiler from kitchen.
To brick up hole from old flue.
To supply and fit new Worcester Bosch Ri Condensing boiler to supply heating and hot water.
To supply and fit 5 Thermostatic radiator valves.
To supply and fit two new Honeywell 2 port motorised valves.
To supply and fit new twin channel programmer to allow independent control over heating and hot water circuits.
To supply and fit magna clean magnetic filter to remove any remaining deposits from the system.
To flush system to remove any sludge from the radiators and pipe-work.
To run condensate drain from boiler to drain point outside the property.
To supply and fit lagging for tank in roof space.
To add corrosion inhibitor on final commissioning to protect system.
Total installation price including materials, labour and VAT £1750.00
Quote 3
Priced for the following, although I am not sure on the boiler choice:

Removal of small bore pipe work to hot water tank,
Installation of new pipe work to hot water tank,
Installation of new pump and motorised valve, (Allows you to choose whether to heat either the hot water or the central heating or both at the same time)
Replacing of gas pipe with 22mm pipe where necessary,
Installation of Thermostatic Radiator valves,
Installation of new boiler controls,
Installation of new hot water tank thermostat,
Boiler - Potterton Promax SL - £699.13
Pump - Grundfos 15/50 - £61.14
Valve - Drayton 22mm 3 port mid position - £85.25
Cylinder Thermostat - Drayton Cylinder Thermostat - £20.52
Timer - Drayton 7 day timer - £64.04
Thermostatic Radiator Valves - Drayton - £95.00
Pipe work and fittings - 22mm, 15mm copper, 21.5mm plastic - £93.47
Ancillary items - pump valves, clips, wire, brackets, etc - £69.82
Materials Total - £1188.37
Labour - 2 days @ £200/day - £400
Total - £1588.37
I am still waiting for another quote from another registered Worcester Bosch installer. Just wondering what first impressions are over boiler choices, or if I should be going back and asking any more questions/changing or adding things. Any advice welcome please!!0 -
Anyone help please?0

Less than the others...bit tricky to compare as none of them are like for like. I was expecting other quotes to take the price higher TBH.
I would discount quote 3..not sure on boiler and price seems well under without any mention of flushing again or magnaclean/similar. Curious why they are they both specifying a new timer/programmer if you already have a fairly new one though.
But quote 2 makes no mention of widening the pipework which the other 2 do. Not sure why they are favouriing 2 x 2port valves over 1 x 3port.
I think at moment out of the 3 i'd go for the first quote with addition of magnaclean or similar. What is your gut feeling about the 3? Impression i get is quote 1 are customer friendly and quick to reply and open to negotiation.
Hi, I really liked the first guy (the Viessmann) and he seemed honest and thorough, checking out all the loft, asking me questions about what I wanted, etc... The 2nd quote, the Worcester Bosch guy seemed OK too, less thorough and said I'd need two 2 port-valves, not sure why as everyone else said 3-port. I emailed the Viessmann guy tonight asking him about the filter and checking the power flush and guarantee (I just want to make sure it is all above board) he is going to come back to me. He asked me if I'd had anyone else round and I told him about the Worcester Bosch quote and how much it was and he said to leave it with him. It may be he is going to reduce the priceSo, big question is, if there isn't much in it would you go with Viessmann or Worcester.

Oh, forgot to add that the timer I have is as old as the boiler and isn't new and needs replacing. The wall thermostat in the hall is fairly new so that is fine and doesn't need replacing.0

I'm not a heating engineer or had either brands but I'd go for the viessmann for having a stainless steel heat exchanger (wb = aluminium) . I wouldn't know if there is much other difference technically. Not sure on customer service side of things but sure others can comment.
Any of them recommended to you or any references you can chase up?
Not had any recommendations although I think Worcester Bosch are more well known but when I've googled both on the internet there is a mixture of good and bad for both. Obviously I think more people have heard of Worchester Bosch. Hopefully someone on here will come back and advise.0 -
Not as such although they are both Gas safe registered and one is registered Viessman and one is registered Worcester installer. The Worcester said he replaced a radiator and did a service on a neighbour's boiler a few doors up if I wanted to speak to her about his work (although it's not the same as a installing a new boiler)! Not heard anything about the Viessmann guy but he does have a website lgplumbingandheating.com with testimonials on there. Both are local (within 5 miles).0

After much, much thought, I think I'm sorted. The Viessmann guy rung back after I emailed the day before last and said he would see what he can do on price. He rung tonight and said for the Viessmann, all pipework, Honeywell controls and programmer, a flush of the system (as per the first quote) he will do it for £1700 (this is because I told him the quote Worcester Bosh had given me). He said that I don't need a filter, I told him I'd been advised I did and he said I really didn't (not sure whether to doubt him or not but he has always been honest I feel). Also, he has said he will throw in connecting in my new gas hob which he saw when he came to price up for me which I was going to have to get done at a later date. The only thing he has asked is for me to be flexible on my date which is fine. It is all above board and guaranteed and with a registered Viessmann installer so I don't think I can complain for £1700 as you were all saying it was cheap at £2k. Is there anything else I need to know or things I should be worrying about.
Thanks for everyones help so far.0 -
I'm in northwich, CHESHIRE. It's all done, had my 5 year guarantee through fro Viessmann and my gas safe certificate. Well pleased. Cheers0
