Why does my connection keep dropping

I'd appreciate a few words of advice.
Over this past week my internet connection has been very hit and miss. My ISP is Freedom2Surf.
The connection just appear to drop for no particular reason and it seems to be that if I remove the cable from the machine, wait for a while and refresh then it seems to re-establish a connection. But not always.
I'm using homeplugs to connect to the internet (have been for the past few years) and prior to this I've had no bother and there have been no changes made to the settings etc.
No matter when I go over to the little internet access icon and look at the strength of the connection it always seems to display there appears to be two networks talktalk3433b and Other Network both signals are described as Poor
Prior to posting I ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware with nothing found. My virus program (Vipre) is up to date and for information purposes I ran four speed tests on Thinkbroadband just before posting and here are the results..
Speed Down 5522.45 Kbps ( 5.4 Mbps )
Speed Up 774.03 Kbps ( 0.8 Mbps )
Port 8095
Date 07/11/10 17:26:41
Speed Down 5262.95 Kbps ( 5.1 Mbps )
Speed Up 771.41 Kbps ( 0.8 Mbps )
Port 8095
Date 07/11/10 17:28:33
Speed Down 5618.23 Kbps ( 5.5 Mbps )
Speed Up 773.32 Kbps ( 0.8 Mbps )
Port 8095
Date 07/11/10 17:31:14
Speed Down 5044.75 Kbps ( 4.9 Mbps )
Speed Up 772.54 Kbps ( 0.8 Mbps )
Port 80
While I'm completely in the dark about speeds and Mbps and Kbps they do seem reasonable.
What bugs me is the constant dropping of the connection and that's only started this past while. I'm working on a relatively new computer and I have sufficient memory. I'm also confused as to why it always seems to say Signal strength poor.
It may sound silly but could it be that my homeplugs are under stress?

if your connected via homeplugs why is it showing as poor?
should be connected or not connected shouldnt it as there classed as wired??0 -
I was assuming that the Network named talktalk3433b is infact my homeplug connection (wired) and that the Other Network was the connection between my laptop and my printer. But again as I said I don't really understand how computers work. I'm just a plug and play type of guy.
