Hi,
We bought a TV from Comet in 2008 (obviously its out of warranty now) but the TV wont turn on as we were using an energy saving plusg (from Lime, which was advertised on here). The red light just blinks nad the power blue light continues to flash. We have tried everything to get it to turn on. (Obviously we took the Lime energy plug off the TV, despite using it for about a fortnight without a problem).
Can anyone help?
p.s. Also posted in consumer rights and home

It sounds like the internal power supply board inside the TV has died.
The cost of a new power supply board will be about £70.
The cost to fit it will be around £100 in labour costs.0 -

Agreed, they're infamous for it, I replaced 3 caps at 18p each in the powerboard, it was only 13 months old at the time, it has worked fine since. The caps they put in were right on the edge of their tolerance when new, very bad design engineering. Samsung of course continue to deny accountability.

Not just Samsung though, all the electronics giants are cutting corners:idea:0 -

Agreed RIK the caps were teetering on the edge of overhead when new, it would have cost parts of one pence to put double the tolerance in. In the case of Samsung it hit the fan first and big all over interwibble / youtube etc but yes I know it to be true of other brands of consumer electronics.
Its true of most makers regardless of brand they are treating the £1000 quid product as a throwaway [ planned deformation ] or user insurable item.
In this case of TV panel powerboards I find it remarkable that tens of thousands have gone, none that I know of before week 52 of their life. If I was a cynic I'd say that the caps were~known~to~be~ok for that lifespan / usage cycle, or that the EEPROM was programmed to self destruct a component at say two years of average viewing hours.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
