online tariff or fixed rate ?

Options
Hi,

Just heard that my supplier southern electric are increase fuel bills and i am thinking of switching but have been worried about doing this in the past.
I am on a standard tariff and any advice on whether a to switch to a online tariff or fixed is best.
Im paying about £120 a month combined.

Any advice would be great.

  • Both have their pros an cons, depends how much you think prices are gonna rise by with the supplier and you can't ever tell how it's going to pan out over the next 2 years.

If you look at the current offerings for both with British Gas, websaver 10 is 6% below standard and price promise 2012 is 9% above standard, to me the premium of 9% against what past premiums have been suggests a price increase is expected in the immediate future and isnt going to be as small as a few percent but will it be much more than 9? and even if you are protected against increases you may effectively end up paying just as much or more, but you have the piece of mind of knowing exactly what your paying for 2 years with no worrys, but then if your already paying 6% below with the online tariff your prices in effect will likely only rise slightly and you have the benefit of your prices decreasing if they do over the next 2 years and either way always maintaining your atleast 6% below the standard cost. It makes sense in my head, reading it back its a bit rambled haha, apologies.
