HELP - installed new modem and pc slowed to standstill

Hi all, I've recently changed ISP and, up to now, managed to cope with my (very) old Speedtouch modem from my Orange/Wanadoo days. Recently it's kept disconnecting though so, on the advice of my ISP, they've sent me a Netgear DG834 modem/router (which I paid for).
I installed this without (seemingly) any problems yesterday, but the pc's been getting slower and slower since then and now I can hardly do anything on it. I have to click on an icon half a dozen times for anything to happen, pages won't load/take ages, etc., etc.
I've tried all sorts, re-setting my IE8 browser, trying Firefox, uninstalling recent programs, disabling my anti-virus, system restore and nothing has made a difference.
There's a bit of "chuntering" in the background and I'm wondering if there's any conflict anywhere?
It's driving me mad and I was hoping things might speed up a bit!
Any advice from anyone would be great.

Have you unplugged your speedtouch modem and uninstalled its software?
To eliminate the router, log onto it with,
http://192.168.0.1
I think its user admin and password password.
Scroll down to show router statistics and post them.
PS are you connecting to the router via ethernet or wireless? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks for the reply

I haven't been able to get on to this forum for a while, so have been changing cables/ports on my p.c. as hubby seems to remember a port being faulty a while back.
Anyway, things have definitely speeded up for now, so will see how it goes ...Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
