Carpet Experts -Best underlay for a Persian rug please?

We have an old Persian carpet square (well oblong 
) about 3 metres x 2 metres in one room on bare boards. We did have a bit of old underlay under it but it kept moving, the edge showing and bits coming off the underlay all the time.
I chucked the old underlay out but now I realise we do need something under the carpet as I can already see lines of wear on it. Its a lovely old carpet and I do need to care better for it. What underlay should I get please for a carpet square to protect it and also one thats going to stay under the carpet and not mysteriously move.
