Options
anyone recommend a decent, easy to use bank account for my step-son please? Saw Barclayplus looked ok, but his mum hasnt got the greatest history with Barclays, would this effect him getting an account?

Thanks in advance

My son has had an account with Barclays - but the best account I found for him was with RBS. He has a basis current account with a bank card with PIn that allows him to use in shops etc, it also has a club that allows him discounts to goods/place etc.

I would recommend the HSBC MyAccount
    http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/under18s
Comes with a ViSA debit card from 13 onwards and very good online banking.

I had this account until a couple of months ago when I switched to there normal bank account.

Unless there is going to be a significant amount in the account, I'd suggest finding the mix of convenience around branch location, debit card and ATM.

Santander and Lloyds TSB are probably up there with rate, but most of the high street banks will have something appropriate (e.g. Halifax Expresscash and the others mentioned above).

(For the record, I don't work for Halifax anymore ;) ).

And in terms of balance, Santander is a horrible bank which causes many of its users nothing but trouble, I am one of many that have or are in the process of leaving because of all the issues it has.

    I third this.
I opened a Flexi Saver for Kids and from the word go it was horrible. They lost every penny I had in my account and called me a fraud, but thats a whole new thread.

I have an Under 19's Account at Lloyds TSB and I can't recommend it enough. I am opening account at HSBC too just for the convenience of Internet Banking.

    (first post woo)
    Target Save £1k :o
    So far £625/£1000 :j
  • I'd also recommend the RBS Revolve account. Both my boys have these accounts (well DS1 has just migrated his to a student a/c) and they've served them well for a good few years. This comes with a solo card, but I had a letter recently saying that they will change to visa debit cards soon if that's of interest to you.

    It's only a game

  • The Halifax account is good also :)
