Tesco electrical extended warrenty

Hi all,

I bought a new washing machine from Tesco direct mid Oct. I also bought the three year extended warranty. I received the machine and all is working fine. I still have not received the extended warranty. I call on Friday to chase. I was informed i should receive it by 20 Nov as sometimes it can take up to a month. I was also told that my warranty is really only two years extended warranty as they include the first year. However i am a bit confused as the first year is covered by manufacturer warranty so i thought my three years would start after the manufacturer warranty.

Has Tesco got it right, sorry of this sounds like a silly question.

Thanks for any help/advise received.

warranties are a money making scam by the retailers. they are not a charity.
there is more profit on warranties than the profit on electrical goods.

If you really want an extended warranty, then buy it independently at the expiry of the manufacturer's own warranty-never buy it from the retailer at the time of purchase, or you will pay far more.

I agree with the others. I'm sure that there will be a guide somewhere on MSE that states that too. the reason they push the extended warranties so much instore is that its basically all profit as the chances of the appliance breaking in the first 3 years is slim. Also the first year is always just the manufacturers warranty.

weve had 3 indesit washing machines in approx 21 yrs. in all that time weve had one major problem.
that was covered under the 1st yrs warranty. they replaced the machine.

i hate to think what the extended warranty costs would be for 21 yrs!

I'm with ormus. We have only had 4 washing machines in over 40 years. Only ever had a problem with one of them. As far as I'm concerned, the cost of the warranty is kept in the bank and spent when the time comes to replace the machine.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Many thanks for all your replies i will cancel the warrenty as soon as i receive it!
