Gas Boiler service - how often?

Is it necessary to have a gas boiler serviced every year? We always do (around this time of year), but a friend said that they only have theirs serviced every two years.

I'm worried that if it does go wrong and the previous service was over twelve months ago we won't be covered by the insurance.

Im no expert but like you always thought you should have it cleaned annually - This stems from when the company i worked for used to provide boiler breakdown cover - And 'Annual Services' were the norm as part of the package

You would have to check your service agreement with your Insurance co - See if your failure to service annually wold invalidate the insurance. Think mine just states that you should have it serviced regularly - But how regular is regularly, annual bi-annual?? A call to your provider should clarify matters

I'd also say check with your insurer. We get ours serviced annually, the guy who did it last year said most people are OK on a 2 yearly schedule, but because we have pets, the fur gets into the boiler, so annual is better.
