Blockbuster online DVD rental cancellation

You now have to phone an 0845 during working hours Mon-Fri or in a Saturday time slot. I've been trying to get through to them and keep getting left on hold so long that I give up, or get cut off. I've tried emailing the customer services department. Will they be of any help? I have around a week left before I get charged.

It's an unfair contract term. If it's possible to sign up online then it's equally possible to cancel online. Send them an email, they are just trying to make money off you by getting you to call a premium number.

A couple of places did this to me (I'm deaf and can't use a phone) so I had to send an email and it was accepted (I didn't mention the deafness thing in the email though).

Yes it's changed it's phone an 0845 number during working hours or for a few hours on a Saturday and the times I am able to phone them the number is always engaged. It's also like that with LoveFilm but if you cancel outside of their call centre hours they at least have an online form which Blockbuster don't.

I have emailed them saying that I'd like to cancel and mentioned how much it costs to phone an 0845 number from my mobile and how long I've been left on hold when phoning that number. I don't know how promptly, if at all, Blockbuster act on emails though.

Blockbuster Inc in the US has gone bust but Blockbuster in the UK was a profitable subsidary of Blockbuster Inc so the liquidators are keeping it going and will sell it in the future.

Yes I did that before I first phoned them. Unfortuantely the number saynoto0870 gives is not one that can be used - it's closed on Saturday at times the 0845 number is running and you need an extension number to be put through to anyone on the number it gives.
  • Cancelled using link in the MY ACCOUNT section, couldn't ring the 0845 number at the time and then forgot until they took payment out again. Rang number and quoted their T&Cs "You may tell Us that you wish to cancel your Subscription Package at any time by accessing the My Account area of the Site, and by clicking on Cancel Your Subscription Account." No mention of a follow up phone call. Operator agreed to refund but said she would get the T&Cs changed! Full T&Cs available at the blockbuster dot co dot uk website /help/websiteterms.aspx?key=subscriptionTerms#payment
