I went into my local on Friday afternoon after seeing the signs. No chickens. I was told by a SA that if I want one, I should get there early because they fly off the shelves. Dunno if that's just for my local though.

These were the ones advertised on TV as Oakham chickens from £2 each. I bagged 2 today but easily walked past them as it shows full price on the birds but then there's a label on the shelf saying it's half what it says on the label. It went through at the higher on the receipt then came of as DISC at the end.

    Nom nom nom. :D
  • I got 2 in doncaster today. i was put off by the full price on the tickets initially!! lol
when does the offer end does anyone know? x

  • Got 2 oakham chickens (medium) for £5.50 today. That's at least 6 meals worth of meal, whoop whoop.

  • Ooh I watched a documentary about these chickens, they are not from a place called oakham, they are imported from abroad and come from the same supplier and are the exact same chickens supplied to Sainsbury/Asda/Morrisons/Waitrose etc just under different fancy names yet they are the same as the cheapy ones lol

er no they ain't, you can taste the difference, and I have.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Agree, not the same as the cheaper ones. Got one today.
  • Went up Friday and Saturday all gone, so was up there for 10.30am today and managed to get 2 and stocked up again :)
  • Just Back home .. None left in Foss Park M&S Leicester 4 me .. serves me right for going so late in the day :-( Lazy beggar if you snooze you loose!

Had a late sunday brunch and then went shopping .. fancied getting one or (maybe two! if lucky enough!) 1 for dinner tonight and one for the freezer next week

Have to rethink dinner now .. no chicken roast for us..

Just taken chicken breasts out of the freezer inspired by yesterdays come dine with me catch up on some randon sky channel that I had on in the background .. so it will have to be ..

the chicken recipe that I saw .. cannot find it on the channel 4 site .. but it was a sort of chicken breast type thing main course ( cooked butterfly - ie split in half! on a griddle pan ) served with if I remember rightly a cream sauce of Mushrooms - (got some mixed fancy ones in fridge) and shallot .. with a slosh of brandy in it reduced down to make sauce.. looked nice

Side of Bubble and squeak .. can do as have left over mash and a savoy that will take 2 mins to stir fry and will add some crisy bacon left over from brunch .. maybe a bit of shallot too? will taste and see..

in fridge have fresh asparagus spears and some baton carrots so will steam them .. as another .. side .. who needs Gordon .. Mmm ? Dinner 4 Four DONE!
Would have been easier to bag the grabbit though ! :-)

Note to self stop dossing around eating late brunches and reading the sunday papers and if you want to grabbit get off and do so early on!
  • These oakham chickens are NOT the same as the cheapy ones. I can assure you of that! You can definately taste the difference!
