id suggest to steer clear of places like reed online/monster e.t.c as they r FULL of agencies just adding people to their books and fake jobs.

if shes looking for specialist work, gumtree is good as u can find good placements direct from employers... which leads onto other internships, e.t.c and also specialist job sites. as again they exclude agencies.

What is it she's wanting to study when she goes back to university?

Oldernotwiser makes a very good point that she should apply to uni NOW in order to start in September 2011. The deadline for most courses is January 15th but standout applicants who get their UCAS forms in earlier will often be offered a place before the deadline, so the sooner the better.

Well, I didn't mean Interior design but Graphic design. So I do know how to make a CV look good and stand out visually, but of course, a degree in English literature would have been better.
She also had help from the career advisors in her uni to write the CV, so content wise I think it's ok.

If she's had help from a CA, that's fine. What's written is far more important than how a CV looks.

Have you have some one else look over the Cv you have written for your wife? like a job agency, where they can give advise if it is needed. I 'think' reed employment offer such a service, but you would need to check this.

Has she applied for temp xmas type jobs?

I don't know, a badly formatted CV is harder to read and tells the employer that the applicant either can't be bothered or doesn't know how to display the information properly and hasn't attempted to find out.

Thanks for all the replies. Very much appreciated.

Although not set in stone, she's considering studying Nursing. Might look into OU, but I presume that requieres a whole lot of discipline as you'd have to study by yourself?

She'll definitely be checking out some local shops within the next week, but a quick search on HMV, Argos and Superdrug shows a very small amount of jobs available - certainly nothing that looks like they need tons of people for christmas. :(

I doubt she'd be able to study nursing at OU as work placements are a big part of the course, involving working the same full time shifts as the qualified nurses.

If this is her ambition then the best jobs she could be applying for are HCA or other caring roles to demonstrate that she has experience of working in a hospital/healthcare environment. They might be low paid and 'dead end' but they're her best chance of getting into nursing.

She really really needs to apply to uni NOW though. Seriously, tell her to get on the UCAS site today and to start working on her statement and find a referee.

I don't think it's unimportant but I do think that the content is more so.

oldernotwiser: I wrote the CV because I have a design background and she does suffer from Dyslexia.

Is the format of the CV one you would use for an application for a job as a graphic designer? If so, is it also one that looks like a CV for the type of jobs for which she is now submitting it?
