Oh and sorry for going off topic but we recently had our hot water cylinder replaced as it was leaking, plumber told us the old one was only worth £7 or £8 quid scrap....... took it and the old pipes to a scrap place and was handed £45!!!!!
Thanks for that - I've had my old copper cylinder replaced recently and was going to skip it. Not now!!!0 -
Just to update - I brought my old copper cylinder and the pipes the plumber dug out of the floor and replaced to the scrap metal dealer at Seaforde last week and got £80 for them. £62 for the cylinder and the rest for the old pipes.
They paid for the skip to take away the old bathroom suite and assorted other household junk. :T0 -
There is another guy in Newry who has posters up to purchase Clothing Footwear and Handbags at 50p per kilo also , he even does home collections for you in an un-marked Van which is really handy, he calls to your door and the best bit is your neighbours never have to know why he's there, and he pays on the spot in cash !!
I have his number if you need it....077 066 074510 -
Just Curious - do they go through the bags for what they want or just take everything?0

I just found out about the place in bangor today, so have transferred from a load i was going to take to the dump to a bag to take to bangor instead! feels like it wil be worth about a 5r but that'll do! It will only just cover my petrol but i'll feel better doing that than dumping them!Cashback in 2013

I dont think so - most places like the used clothing company are 50p per kilo so if you only got £5 for 50kg you got stroked and a bad back carrying the bags into the bargain.0 -

Perhaps they did get "stroked”. So how about instead of taking the clothes to con-artists who would dupe unsuspecting easy targets members of the public you could give them to a charity that helps homeless people or children with cancer?
I know my preference. The poster was only going to break even. Better to benefit the charity than an unscrupulous collector in a parking lot or cash converts.0 -
I took two bags of clothes down, one bag of which was all new stuff with lables on... I got £6.66 and I calculated it was £3.10 in petrol!
I would honestly give it to a charity shop, but I get put off by all the reports of people saying they go through the bag in front of you and critique everything as to whether it is suitable!
I hate throwing stuff out so I usually see if anyone wants them before I dump them.. I recently offere to everyone I know some free sporting goods before they got dumped.. I ended up dumping loads! Also I took some stuff, new in box, to the dump just yesterday and the guys at the dump took some of it themselves!Cashback in 2013

Just leave it at the shop and go. Couldn't be easier. I don't know why you have a poor picture of charity shops. The cash people are the ones more likely to sort through the stuff in front of you. Remember they only take stuff that can be worn again.
I’m sure a local charity shop would have been crying out for some of those labelled goods. They would have made much more than £3.50 I’m sure. Factor in the time it took you to get there and spend dealing with the buyer and it’s probably cost you money.
Charity shops really are crying for your stuff and when you think they can make 5 times the amount we make from these cash four people I think we’re being very short-sighted. Don’t cry when the cancer charities say the have to close services because of the lack of much need funds.0
