Hi
i have 3rd party only and someone crashed into my car and ranaway, given the car details to the police to chase up, but they are very slow... and damage is not huge ( still unsure how about the repair cost).
question is will it affect my car price if I claim through his/her insurance? should i repair myself and avoid claiming through the insurance?
will it affect my NCD at all ? I know some insurance ask about past caim, will i have to say yes if i claim ?
thanks

An excerpt from Direct Lines insurance site, I would assume that this is standard
What happens if the accident was not my fault?
Our first priority is to get your car repaired or settlement to you if it is a total loss. After this, we will try to recover our outlay from the person responsible for the accident. If we are successful then making the claim will not affect your No Claims Discount.
Clearly as you are 3rd party only I doubt they will repair your car without confirmation that the other party is at fault and is fully insured (this beggars the question as to whether he is given that he drove away) If they are unable to claim from the insurance company I suspect you would end up footing the bill.
There is a process for claiming damage costs where the guilty part was not insured but I dont have any details on it.
You really need to estimate the cost of self repair, the age of the car (given that you are only 3rd party I assume it is not brand new) and the potential expense if you were loaded with the over inflated bill from one of the insurance companies repairers.
I had an old car for some time which had a few car park prangs, I was intending to drive it till it expired and so just used to ignore them as long as the car got from A to B.0 -

hi
thanks for the reply, my insurance company has confirmed that they will not repair because i only have 3rd party cover
however if police is successfull to track them and they are insured then they will get it repaired for me(assuming at their expense...the people who caused accident..)
its Jag that i drive and i wondered if the isnurance company records the accident/repair details of my car?and pas it to AA ?
i ask because i dnt want hassle when selling my car ( it may drop value of my car, even thu the accident is very very light may cost £80-£180 to repair).
neighbour has witnessed the accident, statment hasbeen taken and all that ..i saw the car couple of days after crash and phoned the police , i have taken photo and emaield to the insurance company, but police is very slow to chase them, now they think the driver doesnt live in my area and passed the details to relevant police to chase them from their end!
but im thinking if claiming going to affect value of my car then i may aswell repair myself ( only if its not expensive, something im going to find out in next couple of days...).0 -
the only way it will affect value is if its written off (cat c/d etc) or you dont repair the damage
if you have the vehicle reg you can use askmid.com to see who they were insured with..Sealed pot challenger # 10
