Its all explained in the paper work which is sent to you when you get your selection letter, presumably you didnt read it thoroughly.

Failing that, there is a website which could have been accessed.

And when you read the leaflet and access the website, they both tell you that if proof of earnings is given then it will be paid

Why not take them to small claims court, you have the evidence!

I remember filling in the form for Jury Service about 4/5 years ago and have yet to be called to date? Are you on a list for a certain amount of time or will I never be called?

As a research student I gained exemption a few years ago. The position I was in was that I worked to a tight schedule and a lot of other people relied on my work. It would have harmed my research as well as several colleagues and they seemed to accept that.

Your details are compiled into a list from the Census Forms, over 18 and under 65 (I think). A computer program selects potential jurors.
  • I think the maximum age for jurors is 75, I hope you would take it seriously, but if you must shirk this important duty, send the court a letter saying how you have always wanted to do it and feel this is your chance at last to make the difference that is so desperately needed and how you have always wanted to bring back corporal and capital punishment etc. Gross flipping cheek! where's mine? - (the form for jury service)

We were told £50 max a day - a ridiculous amount these days.
It is ridiculous - you'd be a millionaire if you got a long case!

Jurers aged between 18 - 70 are randomly selected from the electoral roll registers.

Talk to your GP, explain the situation, if he/she is nice a wee certificate is written and problem is solved;)

You could explain to your GP the stress and strain having to do this jury service will incur;)

Mind you that only puts it off for a year or so and they will come back again:o

You work in the Civil Service by any chance?:p

Here you don't get that much notice. You firstly get a notice that you can be called in the next two years and if there are any dates when you will not be available. If you are then called you may only get 3 or 4 weeks notice.

Although you can get an allowance there is a limit so you may not get your full earnings if a very good earner.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
