  • Hi, BR is still a possibility,i'm well aware of that. the IVA path isn't to be taken lightly either,my hubby stated a amount to re pay that is totally un realistic given the amount of time involved,he's just so desperate for help, i'm trying to be sensible about it,if it's set up we want it to work so it has to be realistic.

unless you've experienced being in these situations people really can't judge(even though they may try),people make mistakes, circumstances change beyond our control.

many years ago- i was 18,long before my ill health problems, someone i knew was made BR,she had no choice, she was evicted from her home,we went to help her move out. i couldn't understand why she was so quiet. to me,she was just moving house, i had no idea of how she must have been feeling. it still saddens me that i wasn't able to empathise with her. i had no idea at all. she did settle into her new home and things did get better for her.

I'm so pleased- my new co op card came today!!!!! and a welcome pack

does anyone know who the CAB usually refer IVA s to? just rying to check things out and read up before we meet anyone. i'm going to goggle Grant Thornton now.

    thankks again.
  • Just a bit of a update...

we've got a joint basic bank account with CO-OP all set up now, with direct debits set to go. 1st lot of money went in today!!!
setting the new basic bank account up BEFORE anything else was very good advice.

my prepayment card for my regular medicines is due so I need to get that sorted out.

taking from advice here we've set up a saving account also with CO-OP so we can use that to keep anything left over(however small the amount) to act as a sort of buffer/emergency to move money back into the bank account. my head is awash with dates for payments&direct debit dates, I think the stress makes me fuzzy(probably lack of sleep too!). my husband has written it all down in a book so we can keep track of it all.

my husbands wage is even lower this month than last, things are going to be very tight, but we plan to try and stick to the budget the CAB gave us from my husbands next wage packet. if things hadn't come to a head when they did it have hit at Christmas. there's no way he could have kept on trying to juggle it all,he'd been paying for food and fuel on plastic. from now on it's cash only.

the CAB expect to see us again next week. they use Payplan& Grant Thornton. we've been searching here looking at IP's. we've decided we want to have contacted a IP in the next week as the stress is making me ill and things have been very strained between us.

any feedback on IP's would be very helpful, tips? - the main one seems to be no up front fees.

our gas fire has died! and my husband has toothache! why do things always break when you can't afford it????

thankyou all for your help &support,it's made a difference.

It sounds like you're working through things in the right way...good for you and good luck with everything...

I highly recommend PayPlan...I went to them a year ago with a view to doing an IVA - my circumstances changed (Hubby lost his job) and for almost a year I ummm'd and aahhh'd about IVA or BR - finally went BR last week...but PayPlan have been absolutely brilliant - so very patient, talking me through all my worries about IVA versus BR...They don't 'deal' with BR but they were still phoning every few months if they hadn't heard anything and being incredibly supportive - kept my file open even though I was so indecisive...

Give them a call and talk through your options :) I know you will feel better about things once you get the ball rolling, in whichever direction you decide...
  • I think you are right about feeling better when "we get the ball rolling", I am very keen to get going with it now, we know it's going to be hard but the sooner we get on with it the sooner it'll be sorted out.

there's been so much to take in. thankyou and good luck to you too.

    Hi

How many of your debts are joint and howm many are just his?

If they are basically in his name, you need to get your own separate accounts. That way he could go BR/do an IVA and you might be OK.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
