Off to Calais in a couple of weeks to stock up for Xmas not been in a few years so after some info of places to go for best deals.

Last time I went I just stopped at places I stumbled upon I also went in the big auchan.
Can anyone suggest some specific places not too far from the Chunnel terminal where they have a good selection and reasonable prices?

Day tripper site HERE has loads of info, a lot of the old places have shut down now, even Tesco and Sainsburys have pulled out. The big Hypermarkets, Auchan and Carrefour have large wine selections. Lager is probably cheaper at your local supermarket these days. Diesel is about 1.15 Euros/litre so a bit cheaper but unleaded is dearer.

Due to the poor exchange rate. we found most things, wine excepted, at least, if not more, expensive than here, although probably more variety.

Thanks for the useful replies I will check out them sites.
  • I use Auchan (and occasionally Carrefour in Calais). However, booze cruising is not the money-saving bargain that it once was. I reckon that beer is no cheaper than it is in the UK if you take advantage of Tesco's special offers.
Wine is still good value in Calais, though. (I like the 5L boxes of Europlonk at about 10 euro a box - but watch for special offers that can discount them to 8 euro).
The important thing is to do your homework before you go. Check Auchan and Carrefour's website to see what special offers they have in place, and take advantage of them.
One tip ... I find the Auchan le-plus-moins-chere coffee to be drinkable and very good value at about 80 cents per 250 kg. It is vacuum packed and lasts ages. I tend to buy 3 or 4 kilos when I visit.

Yes I found auchan good last tome I went, the missus got massive bottles of persil cheaper than here.
I also get wine when in France but want to get beer and spirits aswell so by sounds of it in grand scheme of things it should work out cheaper than uk overall
