Opera Email laughing at me

My server settings on Opera change themselves without me asking and then I don't receive emails. There are two addresses and it happens with both of them but not usually at the same time. The actual settings under "server" (mail and chat accounts) change from eg Auto to AuthCram and sometimes if you put "None" because "Auto" has disappeared then it still won't work but you can reset it and find "Auto" has appeared again. Does anyone understand what the !!**!**!!*!* I'm on about and what to do about it so I have control and the computer isn't laughing at me?!

    Can't claim credit for this response, but it might be worth looking into...

    In Opera's mail subdirectory, there is a file called "ACCOUNTS.INI".
    It should look like this:

    [ACCOUNTS]
    Bla
    Blub
    Blob
    [SETTINGS]
    DefaultEncoding=iso-8859-15
    ActiveAccount=Blub

    The [ACCOUNTS] entries are the names of the subdirectories holding the actual
    account files. If these entries are destroyed, Opera can't find the account
    data, and I guess this is what happens to your friend. It is likely caused by
    some problem while writing the file, whatever that may be.

    Make a backup of ACCOUNTS.INI, and next time the account loss happens, check
    if that file has changed, maybe even been deleted or emptied.
    Copying back the ACCOUNTS.INI backup while Opera is not running should restore the accounts
    Ever stop to think and forget to start again?
