Too many pickled onions, what can I do with them

I have bought a few jars of Haywards Pickled onions which were reduced in B & M to 39p (just for the jars).

My husband likes the odd pickled onion but not two jars full, does anyone have any suggestions what I can do with them besides bin them?

To be honest I don't mind chucking the onions as the jars are worth a lot more than 39p to me but it seems a shame to do that.

How about emptying the contents into a bowl, draining out the vinegar, soaking onions in lots of water, draining and freezing? You could probably use them up in casseroles or defrost them and mix with other veggies to roast?

Yes, that's what I'd do too. Get them out of the vinegar soonest, so they don't soak up any more vinegar flavour, rinse well and freeze. They'll be great in casseroles or roasted.
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?
  • They will be delicious roasted, I wonder if you could slice them and fry them/roast them for an onion tarte tatin type dish, that would probably be lovely.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Years ago I had a recipe for a beef casserole which specified using pickled onions! I don't remember the recipe as being anything out of the ordinary, but the result was definitely OK.
Mind, I wouldn't have this problem as i love pickled onions!!

Thanks folks, I will drain them tomorrow and freeze them.

As the weather gets colder we will be having more slow cooker meals so I can chuck a few in those.

    Ta.

Ask your local chipshop if they'll take them, or a neighbour? They're 50p each in my chippy

    Blimey!

What size are they, I would want one that was cricket ball size for that price. :D

They're pretty big but too pricey - I buy a cheapo jar for less than the price of one onion
