Selling a car on Ebay.

Hi everyone, I have bought and sold a few things on Ebay and now have a car listed, 10 watchers, no bids, 4 days to go.
When someone wins it I have specified a deposit with balance in cash on collection. No cheques, money orders etc.
How does this work? Can I set Paypal to demand the deposit, not the full amount easily? Plus how do I prove collection to Ebay and Paypal if there is a dispute?

When I sold a car I insisted that ALL payment was cash as I don't think that there is any proof that will satisfy paypal .
If someone paid by paypal I would have refunded them
Saying that i obviously filled in the V5 change of ownership and got buyer to sign a receipt.0 -
OP, I'm talking from when I sold a car on eBay and just want to warn you of problems you may come across.
Firstly, I started my car at just 99p, it was a Ford Mondeo with 4 Months Tax duty and 6 months MOT, full working and drivable.
I had no bids within the first 2 days, of a 7 days listing and at least 18 watchers from my memory.
My car sold on the last day at £249, which I was happy with as it did need a new bumper front and rear.
The buyer didn't make contact with me for two days, and when they did they appeared they regretted winning, we arranged a time and date to collect and pay cash IN FULL on collection.
Well, he said he would be at mine at 10am on a Monday morning, I took the morning off work.
10am came and went, not a phone call (I had given my number) nor E-mail, nothing.
I waited till 1pm and then had to leave to go to work.
On that evening he still hadn't contacted me, I sent him a polite but firm and hot message stating I was not happy and had lost a mornings work, on a Monday too!
He messaged back WITHIN 20 minutes so was online claiming he had been at mine at 10am and no one was in, even though I was and the car was on the drive - so I remained polite and asked if he wanted me to deliver the car personally, no, I don't want it anymore.
I canceled the transaction, reported him to eBay and lost the case as he said I WASN'T IN, a £30 listing fee lost!! as well as a mornings work!
I re listed it and made it clear, DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY THE CAR AND PAY CASH.
Another bidder contacted me before the auction ended, seemed real and I said I was happy with him collecting the week after the auction end due to he had no money.
A week passed after the auction, no E-mail, nothing again - I tried contacting him and got no reply, he had 1 feedback and I looked again a week later and he had bid on another car and never paid, someone gave him Neg on a Pos feedback.
That was enough for me, although I had the second fees given back to me, I gave up, there was a month less MOT and Tax.
I took it to the scrape yard and got £150, £100 less than it sold the first time for and I lost that in eBay fees and work.
I would not recommend selling any car on eBay, it has to be the worst place to, to many dreamers and mad heads as well as the normal time waster!0 -
Do not take a penny of payment via Paypal
It is too open to abuse by buyers
CASH only nothing else"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

Thanks for the replies. The car starts at £4400 as that is the price I have ben offered by a dealer. It is LHD and French reg. Have had several questions and it seems several people are after it. Take your points about cash only but several bidders are a long way away. So I asked for an immediate £200 deposit to show that the winner is serious. Then the rest cash on collection within 7 days.

I can't offer any real advice with regards your listing itself but talking from my past on selling a car on there, once was enough and even then I never sold it on there! :rotfl:
I would also state how much you are charging per mile if you intend to do any delivering of the said car.
Just be careful as there are so many time wasters0 -
sold a few of my cars over the years on ebay, always had good experiences up til this time, struggling with the latest one though, the time wasters have really come out of the woodwork and nobody respects the auction contract any more. I doubt I will bother again in the future.squaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

Well the car sold, 14 watchers seven questions from four people and only one bid so sold for starting price. Buyer has agreed to pay full price in cash when they pick it up so no Paypal fees.0

Good. Just to add, so people know where they stand, motors are exempt from eBay's policy on Paypal for everything."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I have sold a car on ebay, it was not the best experience. The first buyer dropped out of the sale, i asked the second highest bidder if they wanted to buy it, they did but at a much lower price.
And as people have been saying, I would only recomend dealing in cash.0 -
I sold my previous car by ebay but not using paypal, (I had cash on collection) it sold for a similar amount as you are selling yours for. As everyone said don't accept payment by paypalAudi - Vorsprung durch Technik
