I'm looking for someone to make a cake for our wedding in May- we want a pretty plain white 3 tier cake, probably a chocolate, carrot and spong layer.

We live in Cardiff, so for a bargain I guess anywhere between Newport and Bridgend and into Rhondda/Blackwood/Caerphilly way would be fine.

We're happy to use a Bakers or a recommended private person, so any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

might be worth contacting your local sugarcraft guild, theirs a website. They have both professional and hobby cake makers who will charge allot less than a bakery. Or contact a chain store bakery and get prices, their also sometimes cheaper than cake makers. Or asked for hitched.co.uk for recommendations.

I'd offer, but I'm all the way up in Yorkshire! Congrats on the wedding!

i make cakes and live in cardif..im just not a professional :D

unless you specifically want a homemade cake, it could be worth your while looking at the wedding ideas sticky on the marriages board - lots of ideas there about how to cut costs - eg buying plain, pre-iced cakes from marks and spencers, to tier and decorate yourself?

  • My friends recent wedding used an unusual and very striking way of getting round the tiered cake dilemma.

They had a single main sponge cake and all around it, individual cup cake size minatures - the guests were each presented with a cup cake as opose to a slice and though it sounds odd, it was absolutely wonderful.

Sponge with a pastel icing top and a single sugar flower topping each - these can be bought cheaply. The overall effect was rather posh, not at all tacky. The children guests loved them too and for those who couldn't attend, they were reserved 'their cakes'.
