  • Tina Turner is absolutely brilliant for her age (70). So is Honor Blackman, who is still very beautiful and, incredibly, 85 years old!

    Retiremnt apartment indeed!

I honestly think that would be my kinda of hell. Pretty much being pressured into events like bingo and playing on the Wii (according to the ad anyway! :cheesy: ). Having friends round from across the hall.

They even accept people who are 55+.

55+?!!! Really? Don't give up on life just yet!

I wouldn't buy a flat in any of the retirement places but I'd like a small bungalow, even a 1 bedroom one. They're like hen's teeth in my area and they are the type of property that's getting more expensive as there are so few around because not many have been built.

I visited my 86 year old uncle last month. I was asking him how he was coping after a stroke in December. The house was tidier than mine :) He said the hospital had asked him if he would be interested in sheltered housing and he went to check it out. LOL, he said "No way do I want to be with all those old people, it would make me old before my time".
  • Since we are "sharing", I went to see Tina Turner at the Phillips Halle during her Private Dancer tour in 1985. She was wearing a dress far too short and acting too young for her age even then, boy do I regret standing so close to the front of the stage. If she turned up at my retirement home I would be reaching for a pillow. To be honest I had only gone along to catch the support act, a young Canadian called Bryan Adams. We left when Tina started screeching into her third number.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I bought some furniture recently from a couple who had downsized to a retirement apartment - it was in a converted manor in its own grounds and had an electonic gate entry system to the drive.

Each apartment had its own garage and parking.

Talking to the wife she said that it was fantastic to have the company of like minded adults without having to put up with kids playing ball, screaming etc or tennagers tinkering with their cars.

This place looked like a luxury holiday get away not an NHS care home - there are all sorts of property types out there reserved for the over 55s; so don't judge by the few you have seen - In less than 10 years I'll by seeing if one of those apartments are on the market.
