Dla

Options
I need to fill in DLA pack. I have a problem when it asks how long and how many times a week.

As I have a mental health issue, there is no accurate answer to this. Could be 4 nights out of 7 I need help. Or once or none.

The same when outdoors. Varies.

Do I go on the basis if I was bad? I can't mind what I done when I done my last application.

Somebody I know was refused and on the letter it says, you prefer somebody when outside. She is not going to bother making a appeal. But got me wondering if I shall be hit with that!

Come on now Bryando, you know better than most how to answer these questions as you have been receiving DLA and still do!

    In September you said:
Bryando on 1.9.10: I get DLA. My partner has mental health problems and have suggested to the partner to claim DLA.

Unsure if partner would get DLA, however will not know til appliocation is submitted.

The best advice is to be honest! If you can't remember write down how you are for a few days and nights and base your answer on that.

Can DLA be claimed by each partner?
    On 25th September you posted:
My partner applied for DLA and got a letter to say they are contacting the GP. When I applied they never done this for me, never had any reports from GP or consultant. Probably as I provided in depth re my issues etc. Was awarded on first application.

My partner used to attend his GP, however stopped going. Purely as it was pointless, as usually the case I have found. I help my partner greatly, understanding and basically been there where the partner is thinking etc.

Partner mentioned in his claim that GP not involved, will this efect his claim?
There, you said you were awarded on first application, so I don't think you hneed any help or advice!

I believe you can ask for a copy of your last application. Although, did you say somewhere that your last application you didn't get the award you wanted and you were thinking whether to appeal or re-apply??

I'll be the judge whether I need some guidance, thank you! Hence why I'm on here and hence why the forums are here. Yes that is correct, I got it first time round. I still do get DLA, but giving them a update of circumstances.

    Partner still awaiting.

I've hit a wall in terms of how many times a week. As really can't answer that. I last put down if I'm bad and in the space for extra information, placed the times a week can vary greatly. Depending on how I am. Would this still be acceptable? As a mate told me that her support worker said DLA are knocking back if answers are not exact etc.

The rest of it can do fine, no hastle. Just answering the days a week question I can't answer fully as unknown.

You need to give a full and accurate representation, so you could state 'On bad days ...', 'On better days ...'. 'On average I have bad days x times per week, and better days x days'. Don't be afraid to write everything down, using extra sheets if you need to.
    Gone ... or have I?

Is this like girls' periods synchronising? Two heads are ill-er than one?

the easiest way round this is to keep a diary for a couple of weeks detailing everything and send it with the claim, the DLA wont knock back if the answers arent exact, what they are looking for a claimant to supply is a full and acurate picture of their care and or mobility needs, for someone who reades these forums it shouldnt be that difficult to understand what is required op.
  • I'd be surprised if you are awarded anything for mental health issues. I recently applied and was refused, however, I've decided to ask for my claim to be looked at again, then if needs be appeal route.

Sorry but that's not accurate - there are plenty of claims which are awarded on the basis of MH issues

Fair enough, I guess I'm unlucky (twice) ;)
  • Hello Bryando. DLA is a very political issue at the moment. I spent 2 hours filling in a form with help from a carers association. It was refused. YOU MUST put your worst times and days. it seems some people are refused for minor details and you are almost expected to appeal. Good luck and keep asking for help!
