Strange TalkTalk cold caller at the door last night

Last night about 19:00 we had a bubbly female cold caller at the door who didn’t say she was from TalkTalk but I noticed she had a TT ID pass around her neck. She launched straight in with “I’m just checking that you have received your letter last week or so entitling you to free calls & broadband in your area”. I told her that we had received no such letter. She appeared surprised & then said “if you give me a piece of paper I will give you details of how to get the free package”. I gave her some paper & she proceeded to ask my phone number & address. She then asked if we had a home phone & asked if she could use it to phone to get us the deal. At this point I explained that we were already with TT & she said “are you really then just phone customer services & get the deal”. She then left. I think if I let her go through with the call you I would end up with a pincer movement of TT customer services on the phone plus a TT cold caller on my doorstep trying to presuade you to a new deal there & then. I have not taken up the offer of phoning TT customer services as my blood pressure cant take it & I dread to think what would happen to my phone/broadband service if I disturb anything. I have checked TT home page & my account & there is no mention of any offer like this.
She was a very nice girl, but I can’t help feeling that this is a devious stage managed sales pitch by TT striving to new lows in the pitch dark on a Friday evening. So watch out for this sales tactic. And if there is anyone from TalkTalk I think you should stop this sales pitch.

Hope this helps someone to avoid being drawn in. icon6.gif

    Hi madcow2006,

Field agents do have various offers that are available too them and not on the website. If you are unsure if a sales agent is legit then you can call TalkTalk with the agents TT ID so they can check if this a legit sales agent.

I know this is an old thread but......

......last week two individuals (no ID) came to my door - one a bubbly female. She said "I am just checking that you received you letter informing you that the local telephone exchange has been upgraded"

I didn't think I had but we get so much junk mail I just put straight in the recycling - additionally BT have been doing some line work in the area and there have been posters on telephone poles etc advising of the fact.

Therefore it was entirely plausible that such a letter would have been sent out (even though I now know it wasn't).

Unfortunately, the end result was that she managed to weedle out of me who our phone line and broadband are supplied by (two seperate companies) before I sussed what was going on.

Among other things we have a big sign on the door stating "NO COLD CALLERS".

About 3 months ago the wife had actually called the Police after a Talk Talk rep started being verbally abusive when she (politely) pointed out the sign to him.

I just thought I would put a post up so people are aware they are still going around. We live in the southern tip of Bedfordshire. I hope this is of interest to someone.

Oh dear. Did you hand over your number too?

If so, expect to be switched to Talk Talk within a few weeks.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
