  • I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • I can't say I know too much about them, but one that sits on a shelf will be no good to you at all, I think that would only have a 250ml tank so you'd be emptying it constantly. Around the £100 mark I think you'd struggle to find anything more than a 10 litre one, it does seem that you get what you pay for in dehumidifiers, though you can hire industrial ones for about £100 a week. I have no experience of them other than the one I bought but it's quiet and compact and does what it says. Although at first you'd probably have to empty it a lot (unless you 'plumb it in'), once the space dries out it would get less frequent. To do a whole flat obviously site it in a central location and leave all the internal doors open. Make sure all the windows are closed while it's on (I had it on the first night with the windows open a crack and torrential rain all night... duh!) and there's no wet washing hanging around.

    Hope that helps.
If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...

  • I have that one and am very happy with it as it's very quiet and compact. However, I bought mine recently from Homebase (in-store) for £63.99.

    I have a 5 bedroom Edwardian house.

1 bedroom has double glazing but the others don't.
Despite opening windows and freezing I still get condensation so I feel that the solution to no condensation and a warm house has to be a dehumidifier.

I haven't a clue but I 've been looking on "allergy matters.com" and the "Amcor" machines look impressive.

I don't mind spending up to £280.00 but I haven't a clue about these things!
Can you give me some advice?

    Cheers,
    DK

As we had three dehumidifier threads in the 'I wanna' board, I've merged them all into one thread to make it easy to find the helpful posts/tips.

  • Hi
I can reccommend two dehumidifiers. I have the Delonghi - cost approx £150 from Makro and my friend has the ebac which cost £280.(direct from ebac)Looks are important to her, thats why she paid handsomely, but, they both do a magnificent job and its an appliance which has become quite popular over the last 5 years. The small ones that have been mentioned will not be helpful to jaype with her current situation. Electricity consumption is also worth considering bearing in mind how much it costs these days!!! The De longhi I have uses approximately 280watts, but as it is thermostatically controlled, it is obviously not on all the time. I would definitely reccommend one, the difference is pretty amazing and I would replace mine if it broke down straightaway. I hope you can find something soon within your budget. Try Kelkoo or priceline for some comparisons. Regards - Sally

I read a poor report about Delonghi somewhere, maybe Amazon but it may have been a on-off. I've just bought a Delonghi coffee maker and it is great,
but I feel there is more to that price difference here than just looks!

. Anyway barnabee further up suggested "Freenet ltd" who sell an ebac 2850e for £168.99, Ebac direct charge £199.96 so it is maybe worth a look.
    How did our ancestors survive?
I can open windows and freeze but still get condensation.

I was looking for one recently and was taken aback at how expensive they were. I eventually bought this one from Homebase for £63.99 (instore) which was the best deal I could find.

    http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=20001&langId=-1&catalogId=10101&productId=593118

It says it will remove 10 litres a day but the tank only holds 2 litres so will require emptying several times a day but you can attach a 'hose' for continuous emptying. I only have it on at night in the children's room which was badly affected by condensation but it's very quiet and doesn't disturb them while it's running. After a week the room feels a lot warmer and it's collecting less water so seems to be doing the trick!

Recently bought one from Homebase for the same price, except it was Homebase branded and has a 3.5L tank. (10L/day capacity)
