I desperately need a new front door. My problem is I bought a new hardwood front door about 5 years ago and it is still lying on its side in the spare room!
It is just the bare door - it needs glazing; all the fittings - locks, letterbox etc..; then it would need staining and varnishing; this coupled with the window above and the new frame and the fitting and we're talking quite a bit of money coupled with the aggro. of getting a joiner etc.. If these composite doors are roughly is the region of say £1000 how mush am I going to save going with the original hardwood option?0 -

It is your "alternative" setup - seems pretty much airtight especially compared to the original wooden door which was possibly the worse "fitted" door ever...
The lock is an "Era Vectis": http://www.era-vectis.co.uk/
Thanks

We are getting quotes for the composite door. We found what we like and just waiting for the guy to come out and measure up, really.
We saw the door in the showroom, it is Rehau composite door, with 10-point lock and double brush seals. The doors is quite thick, and was very well balanced. We were impressed, especially when we were told it would be about £550 for the door. The guy came recommended by someone on these forums. Will see what price is going to be once he comes for a visit and sees the job (nothing awkward, simple replacement of the existing doors - front/back/patio)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
