Replacing Baxi back boiler with new one?

Hi
I'm hoping to replace my old (but works fine) baxi back boiler.
Have seen that there is a new replacement on the market, Baxi Bermuda HE back boiler.
This is fitted in the existing back boiler space. So no moving boiler into kitchen and using valuable space and expense of moving pipework.
I know that you have to buy an electric Valor Dimension Fire too.
I have seen the Baxi Bermuda HE boiler and Valor nano electric fire online for £1,187.
I suppose what I would like to know is how much would it cost for this boiler to be fitted by registered installer.
Has anyone replaced their back boiler with one of these? And would you recomend it? How long did it take to remove and replace?
Looking on the Baxi website it seems fairly straight forward for someone who knows what they are doing?
So if anyone can help me with a cost for fitting or even supplying and fitting I'd be very grateful. Just want to see what I'm letting myself in for before I start getting some quotes.
Being a woman on my own I want to be ready with a little knowledge and not get taken advantage of!
Many thanks

i replaced mine with a wet electric thermaflow system. (no mains gas)
the boiler costs about £2,500
below is my quote
Thank you for allowing our company the opportunity to tender for the supply and fitting of the following items:
Disconnection & removal of existing BBU & fire & removal of all debris to local landfill site.
To the supply & fitting of a 12KW 250 litre Thermaflow electric combination boiler fitted to loft area (2 year warranty on boiler, 2nd year for parts only). Thermal Innovations have maintenance contracts available for these boilers and at present they are £195 per annum.
A space in the loft should be made for the boiler to be sited & a base will be made by ourselves to support the weight of the boiler across the joists.
All revevant pipework removed & new pipework fitted to new boiler.
1 Year parts & labour warranty on all work.
Hortsmann programmable room thermostat fitted to hallway to allow full time/temp control & removal of existing timeclock.
All relevant wiring done to IEE standards.
Full powerflush with a Kamco CF30 machine to remove all black sludge from existing heating system.
Fitting of a Mira Element shower to bathroom with chrome pipes going vertical through the ceiling to feed existing hot & cold supply pipes.
All materials used are fully compliant with the latest standards and legislation and are of the best quality. We hold £2 million of Public Liability insurance.
These boilers are the most economical of all the electric boilers to run & produce average running costs of approx £500 per annum on the economy 2000 tariff from Scottish Power. The average lifespan for these boilers is 30 years.
TOTAL £ 3550(VAT Inclusive)

Labour will be quite high to replace like for like.
Provision has to be made for the condensate drain, flue needs relining and the special flexible liner needed for these boilers will set you back a few hundred on its own.
If your current system is gravity hot water, then this will need to be changed to fully pumped, with all new controls as well.
The price you've seen, is that inclusive of VAT? It seems rather low.0 -
Hi
Thanks for your replies so far.
I suppose the main reason I was looking at this new type of back boiler was that there is little disruption. I was thinking if I needed to have a new boiler upstairs that would mean carpets and floorboards up and lots of pipework? And a right mess everywhere!
Thanks gas4you, it looks like it could be quite expensive then.
What sort of costs should I expect if I went for a combi boiler that was placed upstairs? Is there such a thing as a "popular" boiler for heating and hot water?
The price was on a website and it was reduced from £1,599 to £1,187 which does include VAT.
As you can tell I don't know much about boilers!
Looks like I will have to get some quotes and expect disruption!!
Thanks in advance for any further advice for me!

Unfortunately any boiler change is going to cause mess and disruption.
As none of us can see your home, or where a new boiler could go, it is impossible for us to tell you an accurate price.
As a generalisation, I usually find that a BBU and cylnder out and a combi in comes to around £2500. This will also depend on what area of the country you live.
I can only recommend getting 3 quotes and asking for their advice. Hopefully if this is from recommended tradesmen it will be honest and accurate advice.0 -
i had my baxi back boiler replaced earlier this year with a worcester boiler , price inc removal of immersion tank , had bouiler put in kitchen so no alterations were required , cost 2400 + vat0

I had my old back boiler replaced with a combi and yes, it was messy and disruptive, but I'm so glad I had it done. Mine took three days from start to finish.
I knew nothing about boilers but luckily my fitter was recommended by a friend, so I knew I wouldn't get ripped off.0 -

Good morning: gender is no excuse...educate yourself....lots of excellent advice available here. Btw...you'd be surprised how many men don't have a clue about central heating.;)

Fix the cost of the installation before the engineers starts. I would also ask if the engineers had done a system like this before.
You are weighing up the cost of installing a relativly new boiler model with a boiler relocation and possible conversion to combi.
Engineers convert systems all the time but they rarely install the new Baxi condensing BBU's.
It does sound to cheap, no scaffolding?, no new liner?
Get a second quote and fix the price. It not beyond someone to sya they can do someting and actually not have a clue and then expect you to foot the bill.0
