Hi,

I'm considering going Inter-railing for a month in possibly July-August 2011.

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences of inter-railing, I'm going alone at the moment that could change. I feel confident about getting trains etc however i'm abit nervous and finding cheap places to stay hostels etc.

Plus i'm sure which route I should possibly take!

This is a possible route being considered.

France
Belgium
Amsterdam
Germany
Poland
Czech Republic
Hungry
Austria
Switzerland
France

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks

    Two things spring to mind:

    1. Possibly far too many countries to fit in within a month. You'd hardly have a chance to see each country before moving on again.

    2. Isnt July-August a very busy time for European trains? (national holidays)

Pick some of those locations and pop into the Trip Advisor forums for each specific country and ask in there. You tend to get some interrailers in the TA forums.

    Have you checked seat61.com?

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your advice.

I was just hoping to travel to as many countries as possible, however you have made a rather valid point about moving on rather quickly etc.

Im not sure when about national holidays these are things I need to investigate.

I did Inter-Railing when I was a student. The way to keep the cost down is to pick overnight journeys, so you can sleep on the trains. That way you can cover more countries in the month. You'll find many people doing the same thing, so you'll soon make friends, share food and drink etc.
Many of the stations have washing facilities etc, but roughing it a bit was part of the experience (at least it was then).
