  • Where do you suggest people live? Its not my fault I cannot find affordable housing! I do not choose to stay in an expensive private rental property! I have moved house five times in five years trying to find affordable housing that would let me live and go to work. Dont suggest to me that people do not want to work. There are always a few bad apples in a barrel, walk a mile in my shoes and other peoples in this situation, before you appoint yourself jugde and jury, and for your information, I CHOOSE to work and am well qualifed in the profession I work in, and get a low wage.

  • I am disabled.

I used to work. It was tough. But I payed my rent and bills without relying on anyone else. I had a reason to get up in the morning. I had a purpose to my life. The nature of the work I did meant that I felt I was contributing to my local area. I felt good about myself...By the time I payed my travel expenses et.c I was actually financially worse off than I would have been on benefits.

Today things have changed. I live in social housing that has been adapted for me. Many days I am actually housebound....I'm not complaining - I feel blessed that I am still able to live independently....but I would dearly love to work again....it's not all about the money - I would love to have the self respect, the sense of purpose and the knowledge that I am contributing something to society. ....Being unable to work has taken that from me.

(It doesn't help that the government and the media seem to be encouraging a negative view of the disabled.)
