I could be wrong (don't tell the wife) but I don't think you can route calls over Sky without transferring line...0

You do not need to transfer your line rental to Sky as well.
You don't need to tell BT you're moving your calls to Sky (Sky will do that).
However, if you're currently paying for BT's Unlimited Anytime or Unlimited Evening & Weekend calls plans, don't forget to reduce your calls plan to the Unlimited Weekend Plan.
Remember that, if you use Caller Display and/or 1571, you will have to pay BT for that/them when you move your calls to Sky because you will not then be able to make the required 2 calls per month via BT. It used to be possible to prefix calls with 1280 to meet that requirement but, since Sky changed to providing their calls packages via BT Wholesale's WCLI, that has not been possible.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. thanks, we don't use caller display and yes we are opting for the unlimited weekend plan, as we are out during the day anyway. I take it that as we are transfering the broadband we only have to request the MAC from BT?

Sky have their own (LLU*) equipment in many exchanges now so they may not need a MAC (but you will, of course, have to cease your BT broadband or they'll keep charging you for it). See what Sky say.I take it that as we are transfering the broadband we only have to request the MAC from BT?
* You probably already know that, if Sky does not have their own LLU equipment in your exchange, you will only be able to get Sky Connect broadband and the cost of that is uncompetitive.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
