The problem is, that the silent majority of people who have had excellent service don't broadcast it, because they are happy. I have used Dell for years now, and have never had any problems. I also have a lot of friends who have used Dell with no problems.
Steve

I presume you work for Dell.

The Dell PC's are ok as long as you never want to upgrade, as nothing is standard. Virtually nothing can be upgraded except by using Dell's own products which of course are very expensive. A new motherboard with CPU is required if you want more speed. You will always be stuck with a Celeron if you buy a Celeron.0 -
best post yet that
The Dell PC's are ok as long as you never want to upgrade, as nothing is standard
Harddrive - Standard
memory - Standard
CDrom - Standard
processor - Standard
IDE cables - Standard
Mouse - Standard
keyboard - Standard
Motherboard - Standard (as in you can add PCI devices, memory, processor, harddrives, floppy drives)
Ok, the board does not have an AGP slot, but to say it's not standard is taking things a bit far. Do you believe that Dell would only make a board to take celeron processors and then have a totally different one for the full blown P4?
Many years ago I built my first system....I bought an Intel celeron 300 processor (not even a 300a) to put on the board.....the reason why, a Pentium P2 450mhz processor (best spec at the time) was over £500, whereas the celeron 300 was £71.00...when the price dropped on the P450 processor I bought it. I didn't need a new board, memory, etc as the board was able to accept the processor. However; the board would only take up to a P550mhz so I had to replace that later.
I don't work for Dell by the way.....but at the same time I don't see why some people are being so negative about an half tidy spec system which will be more than ample for most peoples use.....At the end of the day, if you don't like the spec, don't buy.
Many people are saying they can build one for less and be a better spec. Will it however, come with a legal operating system?Welcome, rogerramjet.

I'll kind of meet you bickering lot half way ! - Dells are hard to upgrade (depends on the system you get - some are easier than mine) but they are a great buy if don't want a supercomputer. Top notch for a greyhair surfer - easy to use, put together and switch on. So get one for your gran - I did and she thinks its superb. Why would she need an upgradeafter all?
Much better than anything else i've seen for this price - be honest. If my gran can put it together and use it - its good for the money and its got legit software so they dont flap about it.
No i dont work for dell either, neither do I have some strange class hatred of affordable computers. I do have a much better system. But I can put these things together and upgrade them myself.0 -

The free delivery offer is supposed to end today, 16 Feb, but presumably Dell will extend the period for the free delivery offer, as the system offer ends a week later, 23 Feb.chico wrote:For those who missed out on the recent £185 deal, here are a few alternative deals for a basic Dell Dimension desktop system, starting with one at £233-83.
These prices are dependent on the Free Delivery offer, which is due to end 16/02/2005.0 -
Hi,
Can anyone please confirm how long it was before your card was charged?
Was it after you placed the order?
After you received the item?0 -
You seem to have got your answer on the other thread, but I'm surprised that Dell delivered a system to you before taking payment. I've found them to charge against the card when the order is confirmed and the pdf sent out, which can be 6-10 days before the system is delivered.roses wrote:Hi,
