Anyone north of the border will, of course, be ordering a 'Munchy box' from their local takeaway -
A fine repast of a layer of Doner Kebab meat on top of a Naan Bread and chips, two tubs of Sauce with coleslaw, Onion Rings, Pakora and Chicken Tikka below. Hoots!
Some may prefer the Pizza Crunch Supper, a half-pizza deep fried in chip-shop batter and piled on a wodge of chips. Crivens!

Is it greed - suppose you are lending money out at 8% (cheapest unsecured loan rate) you are making about 5% over risk free to cover default risk - ie if 1 in 20 don't pay any of it back you are still quids in so it is not that surprising that not everyone can pay it back.Although it's fair to say people made the decisions for themselves, I think it's also fair to say that greedy banks and building societies were all too willing to throw money at them. It must have been easy to believe you could afford it it you were offered loans so easily and could see yourself acquiring all the things you desired.
I don't understand how the financial institutions didn't see that this would happen. Or didn't they really care? They're unlikely to lose out in the long run and, if they are not properly regulated, my fear is that what goes around could come around again.
We are all having to pay to get through this mess, including the next generation who deserve a better start to life.I think....0 -

x 4 = (40p) so for 4 people, total of = £11.00 delivered (and that is in London!).

Which part? I can taste it

When comparing exact match to exact match, London often comes out cheaper than elsewhere. It's only really housing, in the middle, that makes people think London's expensive.anna25071970 wrote: »In our local chippy (which does free delivery over £7 to boot), you can get a large cod in batter for £3.50 (enough for 2 people), large chips for £1.80 (enough for 2 people), pickled onions

If they are spending £20 for fish and chips they must be getting it served in goldleaf or something

For buying stuff, regular stuff, daily living stuff, it's actually often a lot cheaper than outside of London. Even (like for like) travel is cheaper - and it's better... you even have 24 hour transport in some places. In the rest of the country buses stop at 10-11pm and that's your lot.
Also, £7 minimum order for free delivery - spoilt!! I've never heard of a chippy delivering before - and all minimum orders are always £10-15 at other places.0 -

Can't agree with you there Anna, after a 80 mile bike ride on Friday (training for Alps next year), I had a large cod, large chips, sausage, large peas and large gravy, two rounds of bread and butter, all to myself, and I was still hungry
Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.0 -
@Anna - re the £11, if you add on a drink each at a quid a go and an ice cream each at the same you're pretty much at a score. Can't agree with you there Anna, after a 80 mile bike ride on Friday (training for Alps next year), I had a large cod, large chips, sausage, large peas and large gravy, two rounds of bread and butter, all to myself, and I was still hungry

Which Alp/Alps are you doing? I've done a fair bit of road riding in the Alps. Nothing in the UK that I've found can prepare you for your first one. 10-15km of continuous climbing isn't available on British roads AFAIK. When you get to the top, the feeling and the view are awesome. Just remember that when the cars beep you, they are warning you they are there, not being aggressive. You'll get a few shouts of 'allez, allez vite' out of the windows too!0 -

Wow - that's cheap. In our little corner of the South East it's £3.60 for a small cod (skinless) and £1.40 for small chips - and a child could eat it - I know because my 9 year old grandson had some last week and left nothing - the dog was gutted.0
