Fitting kitchen worktops help please

We have recently moved house and have decided to keep the kitchen that is already in but replace the worktops.
Have arranged a joiner to come and fit them but then realised that the gas hob may cause a problem - will we have to arrange a gas safe engineer to remove and refit once the benches are sorted? The joiner never mentioned anything regarding this, only asked about sink and mitre cuts.
