I have had 5 bottom teeth removed from the front and a partial denture made to fit in their place with an extra 3 teeth each side as I have no other bottom teeth.
This sounds like an 'immediate' denture. A denture made to fit in immediately after teeth have been extracted.
because of this, it has a greater degree of inaccuracy. The technician has to 'guess' what your gum will look like after the teeth have been taken out. Plus - as the sockets will be open, a flange that fits over the gum and down the ridge cannot be made. The teeth have to be 'socket fitted'.
Alongside this, as the sockets heal, the shape will change considerably. This will mean that in a few months time, you will probably either have to have a new dentur, or this one 'relined' to get a better fit.
I would have thought this should have been explained at the time of treatment planning.
But as the poster above said - you need to go back and discuss these things with the dentist. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I keep reading about these immediate teeth but I didn't have those. I had to wait until the gums had healed before going through the process of moulds etc. Also something else rather odd is that two of my teeth weren't removed, they were filed down but the roots remain.
The first teeth didn't fit, my dentist was killed in a car crash and the next one kept trying to convince me that they were fine. The fact that they sloped from left to right she seems to have missed. In the end I decided to start again, another £200. These fit tightly and painfuly and I've lost count of the number of times I have had them adjusted. They wouldn't go over my gums.
I just don't know what to do next. I'm sick of going to the dentist. I really feel like sueing them.

I paid £100 just for a cap a few years ago, have lost 3 teeth since then and another 3 are wobbly, so I reckon a full set will be on the cards soon, If I thought I could get them for £100 I'd go for it.
(Am seriously thinking about looking abroad to get it all done in one go as all this pulling of teeth at £40 each is not at all appealing)
OP I hope you get them to settle in soon, be careful when you laugh in case they pop out.

While on holiday in Thailand i cracked a top plate with 3 teeth on it while dining out , went to the local hospital in Pattaya , saw dentist same day , she made me a plate in 48 hours !
Best fit i have ever had with a plate and still wearing them today ! My dentist says he has never seen such good work and was well impressed when i told him that including all the costs they came to £220 :money::):)

Hi, have just had a few teeth on a plate (top set) fitted, just a week ago but am fairly happy with the fit of them, no soreness so far.
But my problem is speaking, mostly ok but T's and S's oh heck! I'm either lithping or whishtling.
Having googled, the advice seems to be that after practicing - yes I'm reading these forums out loud - it should take about a week and I'll get the hang of it, but so far I feel like I will be avoiding speaking to real people for months!
Any advice on this please?0 -
I have been going through this awfull situation for about a year and a half now due to illness, medication and an awfull infected saliva gland, now only 3 real teeth left in the top of my mouth and minus 4 in the lower jaw, I dont even bother trying to wear the bottom denture as they have shaved so much off the teeth to make it fit the lower front false teeth look like match sticks, just (yesterday) had another upper rear molar removed as it was pushed loose and very slack from the upper denture resting on it, so yet another totaly out of place and sloping back tooth fitted to this horible upper denture and the pleasure of paying £48 for it!
I did ask a few extractions ago if they could just pull all of the top teeth out at once and have a complete denture made? but oh no we cant pull good teeth! they just wait for each one to go bad and charge again and again.
One good thing this time I saw a different dentist for my extraction who commented about the bad fit of the denture and recomended that I come back after two weeks (after the socket has healed) to have another impression taken and the denture re-designed? and it will still be covered by this charge! In the words of the great Arnie " I'LL BE BACK"
And the worst part is I used to be a singer and realy enjoyed it untill all this started.
