Bah, humbug.

Christmas just got cancelled for many folk who can least afford it, I suspect.
There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

I don't know of this firm.
Is this like hampers for council estate families or more Fortnum and Mason?

does anyone know what they do with the money they get each month up until they have to buy the vouchers or hampers?
  • The worse thing is most of the people that do save up for xmas through things like this are on tight budgets and have actually done the right thing by paying a bit each year instead of being overwhelmed with costs when it hits November/December time. Yet they've been left worse off than those that leave it to the last minute and blow their budget and strugle to repay it later on.

It's also really close to December now so it's even unlikely they'd get any of their money back before xmas if their is any money left at all to give back.

i asuume it's like 'park' hampers that are much advertised on digital TV channels. paying upfront as a savings scheme for food hampers, jewellery and high steeet gift vouchers.

i don't know any agents, but how embarassing for the agents who have customers! this could affect friendships too, not just christmas dinner.

    It absolutely stinks.

There are a few threads already on MSE about it. Apparently most people have just sent off their final payments and won't be getting anything. Some people have lost hundreds of pounds, and yes they can't afford it.

Many people act as agents for family and friends and are having to go round telling these friends that their Christmas savings are gone

"Let them eat cake!" is the usual translation of "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche", misattributed to Marie Antoinette

Louis XVI's coronation took place at Reims during the height of a bread shortage in Paris. This is the context in which she is incorrectly quoted as joking, "If they have no bread, then let them eat cake!" ("Qu'ils mangent de la brioche.") There is no evidence that this phrase was ever uttered by Marie Antoinette. When Marie Antoinette actually heard about the bread shortage she wrote, "It is quite certain that in seeing the people who treat us so well despite their own misfortune, we are more obliged than ever to work hard for their happiness. The king seems to understand this truth; as for myself, I know that in my whole life (even if I live for a hundred years) I shall never forget the day of the coronation."

She was executed by guillotine at the height of the French Revolution in 1793 for the crime of treason.

    No you're misquoting.

Rudyard Kipling was the one who said, "Who ate all the pies?".

(I heard they were exceedingly good though).........
