I have an eye level double oven and I wouldn't go back to a single under the hob style.
I don't have to bend to get things out of the oven and if I am stiring something on the hob I am not stood in front of a hot oven.

I have an eyelevel oven and I much prefer it to the other sorts. The only thing you have to watch is don't look into it when you spark the gas. I had a lucky escape with my eye once!! I think this is why landlords don't supply ovens with eye level grills, probably too much of a liability.

Sometimes it depends on the amount of space you have. In a small kitchen with little workspace a built under oven is probably best. Not only does it give a more spacious, less cramped appearance, but with the use of an extra large chopping board the hob can be utilised as extra workspace if necessary.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Funnily enough I've just been through this discussion with a friend. She prefers high oven I prefer low. I currently have a high oven & find it very awkward to get things out of. I'm not sure if it's the positioning or just that I'm short but it drives me crazy. I've only used it a handful of times in the couple of years I've lived here because I find it so awkward. I would definitely put a built under one into a new kitchen. I don't mind the bending.
She prefers a high oven. She has lots of young kids & also doesn't like standing in front of a hot oven whilst stirring something on the hob.
  • I have had both.. the built in eye level one was a Gas Oven. I found that really easy to use and could see the grill which was a great advantage. Plenty of storage above and below the Oven was useful too. I did have a problem once when the gas did not light straight away and I did end up loosing some of my eyebrows and hair..Electric Oven under Hob now for a few years and prefer Electric as it is much cleaner and have got use to bending and removing without any major problems... but I still prefer eye level overall especially as we grill a fair bit. I like the fact with an under oven and hob above type the extractor fan can cover both appliances...looks neater in a small kitchen...Mrs. H

I would go for the eyelevel oven every time, for cleaning its a dream especially if you get one that the door comes off.. also I can see what is going on all the time without bending and I can see exactly when my toast is done without pulling out the grill... if you can get one with the double oven (2nd oven is the grill too) so much the better.....

Eye level. If for no other reason than we are all getting older.

We have had an eye level oven for a number of years and would not change back.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
