Pocket Sprung Latex Mattress

Options
Apologies for starting yet another mattress thread but the whole business is just such a minefield.

I'm soon likely to be in the market for a double pocket sprung mattress with latex on top for less than £500. We like medium-firm and both weigh in the 11-12st range. Any recommendations?

I was thinking possibly of the Eternity from Highgrove Beds at £435:

http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/mattress-sho/double-mattresses/eternity-pocket-latex-1500-double/

Does anyone have any experience or feedback on this?

My only reservation is that it says it's no-turn. Other sites say you can turn it but of course you don't then have the latex on top. The site I've linked to above says that the latex makes it very durable but how long should I expect a mattress to last? And even if the latex is durable will other parts of the mattress degrade?

Thanks.

That model doesn't actually contain natural latex, it is a cheaper blend that doesn't have the same properties.

You won't get a mattress with a deep enough layer of natural latex on both sides of the mattress for your budget, although you could get a non turn one (which I don't like).

Have you cosidered a pocet sprung with memory foam topped with a climate control fabric?

Thanks Tim. I'm aware that I won't get a double sided latex mattress within my budget hence the question about durability.

Yes I think pocket sprung topped with memory foam and a climate control fabric might be a good compromise. It was just that my wife lay on a latex one at Dreams (apologies for swearing ;-) ) and liked the feel of it (so did I).

Most of the mattresses in Dreams that contain latex either only contain a very thin layer, or it isn't natural latex.

Does that mean the feeling will be completely different?

On a related note...your website terms and conditions seem to suggest that if you order a mattress with Climasmart or Coolmax fabric then your 14 day guarantee doesn't apply - is that correct?

    Many thanks.

It means that the feeling from one with a decent layer of natural latex should be far better, and will also be cooler.

I don't know where you got that from, but I can't discuss anything to do with my site on here.

Apologies, Tim but that was my reading of the text. I'll PM you about it.

I'm afraid I can't discuss anything to do with my site via PM either.

Thanks for all your help Tim.

I've got a few more questions I'm afraid! Going back to the durability question - what would be a reasonable life expectancy for a double sided pocket sprung with latex topper mattress vs a single sided one?

How would that compare with the longevity for other types (e.g. pocket sprung with no topper or pocket sprung with memory foam topper).

Also, which would be cooler, a pocket sprung with Memory foam topper and Climasmart cover or an otherwise identical pocket sprung with latex topper and no Climasmart cover?

    Thanks.

A double sided one should last roughly twice as long, as long as it is turned on a regular basis.

The ones with memory foam or latex foam tend to actually last longer, as the foams are extremely durable, and often outlast the springs.

Latex would be cooler than memory foam with Climasmart, as latex has a cooler feel, but Climasmart doesn't give a cool feel. It helps to keep the temperature the same the whole time.

Thanks Tim. Don't think I've got any more questions at the moment but I'm sure I'll think of some before taking the plunge!

In the meantime if anyone else has any comments/opinions it'd be good to hear them.
