As long as it's a pci-e slot just install new card and connect monitor. If no show try your old card in also
to confirm.0 -
I disconnected both the DVD drive and hard drive on the Shuttle and still it would not boot up with the new Sapphire card.
Richie-from-the-Boro's advice seems to be that I need a 400w or higher PSU to run a HD card so I think I will return the card and forget about hd for the time being.0 -
What techies are able to do and what non-techies have access to are different things. That statement simply recognises the simple truth that we have more options / resources than you do. A techie would :
- eliminate / prove the new card in a different machine. Does it work Y/N
- snap on a [ known to be good ] additional PSU driving the 24pin ATX plug only and deliver sufficient power to the PCIe slot. Does it work Y/N
- pull the jumper / clear the CMOS and go to defaults, put the new card in, to eliminate a BIOS fart. Does it work Y/N
Ronnoc, this sounds like less than 10 minutes diagnostic time well spent.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. The above all makes sense but I read the minimum specs on the side of the packet last night and it states what you had already said that the power unit must be at least 400w. The power unit on my alternative machine is 200w like the shuttle.
They don't appear to mention anything about minimum power online but it is certainly on the side of the box.
I posted on another forum after I did not get any replies to my original question post 9 here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/28368880 -
